The best time to visit Portugal is during summer especially the beach is a must if you’re in Lisbon in August.  You should surely join the residents who flock to the shore on weekends, when the city is empty. 

The urban shoreline at Ribeira de Cascais Beach to the more untamed Atlantic beaches near Guincho, the Cascais train line transports you to some of the greatest beaches close to Lisbon. You can choose the rail stop that best suits your mood because each one has a distinct beach vibe.  Just keep in mind that Portuguese beaches receive a lot of sunlight, so if you plan to remain all day, carry some sunscreen and possibly a beach umbrella.
